AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS
leave the wrap for no longer than 30 minutes after your tattoo appointment. remove the wrap slowly & allow your tattoo to breathe, do not rewrap. you may see blood or clear liquid under the bandage. this is normal.
until the tattoo heals completely, wash the tattoo gently three times a day with fragrance-free antibacterial soap. use cold or warm water but not hot water.
for the first two days, do not use any ointments, creams, or lotions on your tattoo.
after two days, continue washing three times a day & place a light layer of fragrance-free lotion as needed. if preferred, you may use a very thin layer of aquaphor or a&d ointment; after applying it, use a wet paper towel to wipe off any excess. large amounts of ointments or lotions will not allow the skin to breathe and this increases the chance of infection and prolongs healing time.
do not go to the gym for at least two weeks or participate in any activities that will make your skin sweat. gyms are also full of germs and bacteria, which can cause your tattoo to become infected.
avoid direct sunlight, swimming pools/hot tubs, saunas, sand, lakes, & beaches.
do not soak or scrub your tattoo. submerging your tattoo in a bath or any body of water can cause serious damage. avoid this until your tattoo is completely healed.
do not let your pets touch the tattooed area.
use clean bed linens and towels throughout the healing period.
do not put makeup or sunscreen on the tattooed area until it is completely healed. tanning will not be good on the site of the tattoo during the healing phase. it is suggested to use sunscreen on your tattoo after it is healed to preserve color.
in the process of your new tattoo healing it will become very itchy. do not touch, scratch or pick at your tattoo. this can also make it infected. you may only touch the tattoo while cleaning it, the scab will fall off naturally, if you see pieces of your scab coming up do not try to peel them off.
do not wear very tight clothing over the tattoo, try to let it breathe as much as possible.
continue these instructions until the tattoo is completely healed, this can take two weeks to a month.
if you are unsure about signs of infection, or have any additional questions regarding the healing process, please contact us at 303.956.3191 or come into the shop. if you experience abnormal symptoms after the procedure such as infection, yellow or green pus discharge from the tattoo site, extreme pain, or swelling, please seek medical care immediately.
